I've read a lot in the past couple of years about the falling birth rate, and all sorts of reasons for it. This is the wisest piece I've read. It speaks not just to what's behind the decrease in new families, but also to what's driving many of our other social ills.

It is fashionable now to target systems as the the cause of what ails us, rather than looking for at least some of their roots in matters of collective and invididual behavior and character. Your mention of patience at the end speaks volumes about how our culture has gotten off track. We need more voices like yours.

Agree 100%. The solution is not in technological or economic fixes, but in a re-ordering of values.

Props to you for actually understanding that Proverb. We had two children and had difficulty having our third. If that was painful, I can't imagine those who don't even have one.

Like Laodicea, the church in America has been spewed out of Christ's mouth. This is what post-spew looks like. The answer is for the church in America to ditch the idols of freedom and wealth and find life in trusting Christ.

"This threatening, 'I will spew thee out of my mouth,' has been long ago

executed with a dreadful severity upon the Laodicean church; and it is now

succeeded by a mongrel race of Pagans and Mahometans; and the name of

Christ is not heard among them."

Samuel Davies, ~1750
